Types of Domestic Water Filters

Because of the pressure on water resources and the ever increasing pollution levels, domestic water filters have become an essential part of life with almost every family having installed one for their household. Domestic water filters are responsible for removing impurities from the water and also for improving its smell. Additionally, domestic water filters destroy tiny micro-organisms that live within the water, creating a much safer and healthier drink.

With the great demand for domestic water filters, the introduction of many different kinds of filters has been made. Domestic water filters all come in various shapes, sizes and even colors, and they all use different technology to achieve clean water. Some of the most common domestic water filtration systems available on the market today are:

1. The carbon water filter, which is not only one of the most commonly used filters, but is also extremely effective at removing foul odors, destroying pathogens and filtering out impurities.

2. The reverse osmosis water filter uses a very fine membrane that filters the water through an osmotic process, removing just about everything from the water and leaving it totally pure. Unfortunately, when we say this domestic water filter removes everything, we mean everything -- including the good minerals. Because of this, and also the fact that only a qualified mechanic is needed to install them, reverse osmosis domestic water filters are very uncommon.

3. Distillers filter impurities from the water by first boiling it and converting the water into steam. The many impurities in the water are then left behind while the steam is condensed back into a now very clean and pure water. This method of distillation is an age-old method that has withstood the test of time. It is the second most popular filtration method available today.

4. Back flush water filters are really no different from normal charcoal filters, despite claims to the contrary by the manufacturers. These domestic water filters, in addition to not having a long life, also require frequent filter changes and are very costly.

5. A magnetic water filter uses a magnetic field to rearrange the ions within the water. This domestic water filter actually works best when the technology is actually able to split the water ions, otherwise the effects of this filtration system are only temporary.

6. An energetic water filtration system needs to be attached at the exact point where the water enters the home and it works by aligning the water and softening it to some degree. However, these domestic water filters do not change the pH value or the charge of the water. Additionally, these systems do not filter the water in any way.
