A water filter can only clean a fixed volume of water. The life span of a water filter is indicated in the user manual that comes with the filter. The user manual also explains how to clean the filter and how often it should be cleaned.

Some refrigerator water filters can be pulled out directly while others need to be unscrewed first before the replacement water filter can be installed. Detailed instruction ons perform this task is printed in the manual (usually supplemented with pictures) in order to help you with water filter maintenance.

When a water filter reaches its end, the flow of filtered water starts to slow down. If you notice this in your water filter, you should replace the filter cartridge as soon as possible. They have several filters and has five to six stages of water filtration. Thus, you will need the services of a trained technician to clean the water tank for you. On the other hand, distillers, whole house water filters and water tap filters can be easily maintained and do not require specialized help.
